Scania R four-axle trucks are designed for national and international long-distance transport of heavy and oversized loads, where efficiency and productivity are critical factors. Scania currently offers a trio of Euro 6 V8 engines with a capacity of 16.4 litres, based on the power unit introduced in 2010. In order to meet the Euro 6 standard, these V8 engines use a water-cooled EGR system with SCR technology and a variable geometry turbocharger.
All three forked V8 engines have excellent maximum power and torque figures. In the case of the 382 kW (520 hp) version at 1900 min-1, 2700 N.m is available from 1000 to 1300 min-1. The 426 kW (580 hp) version at 1900 min-1 has 2950 N.m from 1000 to 1350 min-1 and the top version 537 kW (730 hp) at 1900 min-1 offers 3500 N.m from 1000 to 1400 min-1.
